Central Coast Pride Month
Joint Statement

To Our Community,

The Central Coast LGBTQIA+ community of San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, and Ventura counties is united.

We have roots here, and we have journeyed here; from the valleys to the coast, we are as rural as we are urban.

We live across race, gender, age, ethnicity, disability, citizenship status, body type, income, academic background, and beyond.

We are married, single, partners for life, welcomed by our birth families, creating our chosen families, and nurturing our own families.

And we are united this Pride Month — and every day of the year.

Some of our organizations are empowering our youth. Some are engaged in the work of harm reduction. Some are telling our stories and changing narratives. Others are providing direct support services, creating art and preserving culture, or building spaces for our community to celebrate, connect, and thrive.

As event creators, nonprofit organizations, and community projects of the 805, we understand that there is no one way to be queer.

We understand that the work of affirming and serving our diverse needs, experiences, and aspirations requires all of us.

We understand that it takes all types to come together and create a world where LGBTQIA+ people can be free.

And this Pride Month we are reminded that no matter where we are from, and no matter the story of our lives...

We are united.

Happy Pride Month!
